Award of Mittelrheinbahn (Mid-Rhine Valley Railroad) to Trans Regio successfully concluded after litigation
Trans Regio Deutsche Regionalbahn GmbH (Trans Regio) will take over, as of December 2008, the much-traveled railroad connection on the left bank of the Rhine between Cologne, Koblenz and Mainz, with an annual km-volume of some 2.9 million kilometers. Up to now, the stretch was operated by DB Regio AG, which, with the award to Trans Regio, stands to lose an important network. The order volume is in the hundreds of millions. The decision by the rapid transit authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate - VRS, SPNV-Nord und ZSPNV-Süd - to award the contract became possible only after a review of the award procedure by the Public Procurement Division of the Cologne district government and the Higher Regional Court of Düsseldorf. In this matter, VRS, SPNV-Nord, ZSPNV-Süd were advised by Dr. Ute Jasper of the Düsseldorf office.
