Advice on Eiermann Campus Vaihingen: currently Stuttgart's largest urban development project
Swiss-based SSN Group intends to develop a modern mixed-use quarter on the 10-hectare Eiermann campus in Stuttgart-Vaihingen, which is named after the renowned Stuttgart architect of IBM's former German headquarters on the site. With a scheduled floor space in excess of 200,000 square meters (corresponding to about 30 soccer fields), this is currently the largest urban development project in Stuttgart by far. The integration of the former IBM office buildings, which are protected as a historical monument, and the proximity to the Stuttgart highway junction (A 8/81/831) are particular planning challenges. Following the results of the urban planning competition, it is planned to construct a continuous building of several hundred meters length along the roadway (referred to as “loop building”), which will also supposed to shield the campus from the highway.
