Federal and State Government Employees Retirement Fund Karlsruhe (VBL) - Container data center
The Federal and State Government Employees Retirement Fund (VBL) is a statutory institution of public law carried jointly by the Federal and state governments. It is the largest German supplementary retirement fund for public service employees.
In addition, VBL is one of the largest institutional capital investors in Germany. At present, about EUR 15.4 billion are invested on the capital market. A part of these capital assets is invested in real estate. VBL therefore holds an extensive real estate portfolio.
VBL awarded an order for the supply and setting up of a container data center. The initial development stage consisted of two container modules, one for the infrastructure with basic technology such as power supply and air conditioning, and a second one for the pure IT capacities (14 racks, e.g. for servers, switches, storage, libraries, etc.). The second development stage comprises a third container module as extension for separate IT capacities (5 additional racks).
We designed the contracting method for VBL as public invitation to bid for the supply and setting up of a container data center and accompanied the project up to the awarding of the contract to the winning bidder and the conclusion of the contract.
We also advised VBL on the separate public invitation to bid for the supply and assembly of technical high-voltage systems for the container data center. In this connection, we also designed the relevant components of the award procedure and accompanied VBL up to the successful awarding of the contracts.
The total order volume is just over EUR 2 million.
