Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek advised the district of Südwestpfalz on the expansion of broadband infrastructure
The way has been paved in the district of Südwestpfalz to successfully digitize the region. Funding provided by the federal government and the district itself will permit 34 commercial areas, 7 industrial parks, and 4,000 households to gain access to fast internet.
The expansion of broadband supply with fiber to the building (FTTB) enables the commercial areas to achieve transmission rate of at least one gigabit per second downstream and upstream. In order to supply the 274 address points, fiber optic networks are required over a distance of 56 kilometers. The winning bidder, Telekom Deutschland GmbH, will provide 36 kilometers of empty pipe systems and 22 fiberglass-connected cable girders at cost. 4,000 private households outside of the specific development area will also benefit from much faster internet access made available with this FTTC technology.
Telekom Deutschland GmbH is performing structural and property planning and the securing of sites in order to start with the expansion as soon as possible. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
