Heuking assists HUK-Coburg in placing a telematics sensor on the market
Dr. Sebastian Jungemeyer of Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek’s Hamburg office advised insurance group HUK-COBURG Haftpflicht-Unterstützungs-Kasse kraftfahrender Beamten Deutschlands a.G. on placing a telematics sensor on the market. The client was advised on issues relating to requirements for electrical devices under product law and the regulatory requirements associated with placing the sensor on the market (including product booklet and packaging).
At more than twelve million insured vehicles, HUK-Coburg is the market leader in German car insurance. In the future, HUK-Coburg intends to increasingly offer telematics-based insurance on the German market for motor vehicle insurance. Using a sensor and a smartphone app makes it possible to record and evaluate driving behavior. The insurer is using a new device to measure vehicle data. The sensor tag is attached to the inside of the windshield and does not have to be permanently installed. It is issued to HUK-Coburg and HUK24 policyholders who wish to take advantage of the telematics-based insurance rate.
Dr. Sebastian Jungemeyer had previously successfully advised companies in the insurance sector on placing retrofittable emergency call systems in motor vehicles on the market.
