Organizational redirection: Hertha BSC repositioning with Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek

The Executive Committee of Bundesliga soccer team Hertha BSC appointed Thomas E. Herrich, Chief General Counsel, as a new general manager. Right away, the long-standing management team member conquered initial legal challenges in his new role, including organizational changes providing for the formation of an adapted director level. Jointly with Fredi Bobic, General Manager Sports, Herrich is also responsible for major personnel decisions in Hertha BSC’s Sports division. Sandro Schwarz succeeded interim head coach Felix Magath, who had managed to save the team from relegation from the Bundesliga. Numerous other HR matters were also resolved, in particular the contract terminations with long-standing head coach Pál Dárdai and assistant coach Andreas “Zecke” Neuendorf. In the end, Hertha BSC achieved very good solutions for the team and considers itself very well positioned for the future.

In its organizational redirection, Hertha BSC was supported by a team led by Dr. Johan-Michel Menke, Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek, Hamburg, in employment law. Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek regularly represents Hertha BSC in matters of employment law – cf. here the April 20, 2020 press release: The future belongs to Berlin: Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek advises Hertha BSC on short-time work, quarantine, and head coach change.
