Exchanging lecture halls for law firm offices: August marked by young legal talents

In August, Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek‘s Internship Program and the Patent Summer School concentrates entirely on young lawyers.
 
On August 1, 2019, the Heuking Internship Program will begin for 17 interns. For four weeks, students will exchange their lecture halls for Heuking offices to gain an impression of working at a business law firm. In addition to assisting on actual cases, interns will also be treated to specialist lectures on topics such as ”commercial tenancy law” and workshops, for example on ”academic work”. Interns will also be immersed in the world of the arts during the art tour through the Düsseldorf office building and will be able to establish contacts at the relaxed barbecue event.
 
The opening lecture will be given by Hamburg Associate Fabian Budde on ”Public procurement law in legal practice.” This presentation, as well as the other lectures held during the Internship Program in Düsseldorf and Hamburg, will be transmitted to all offices by video conference.
 
At the same time, Heuking Patent Summer School will start in Düsseldorf, where eight master students, prospective lawyers, and patent experts from different countries will come together to discuss the various aspects of German, European, and international patent law. The agenda includes case studies, lectures by experts from different countries, excursions to Munich and Brussels, and participation in court hearings. The program starts with a welcome party followed by an ELSA (European Law Students’ Association) L@W event. Numerous students from the University of Düsseldorf and other universities in North Rhine-Westphalia are looking forward to a lecture on “Copies, pirates and expensive medicine – the professional field of an IP Attorney,” and a presentation on career opportunities at Heuking that will be followed by an informal get-together.
 
On August 22, participants of the Internship Program and of the Patent Summer School will jointly visit the State Parliament on the banks of the Rhine in Düsseldorf to obtain information on the federal system in Germany and parliamentary work.
