European Commission adds Dr. Elke Umbeck to EU list of arbitrators for disputes under EU trade agreements
The European Commission published its list of suitable candidates who are available for appointment as arbitrators in bilateral disputes under EU trade agreements with third countries. Dr. Elke Umbeck, Partner at Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek, is one of those candidates.
In December 2020, the European Commission had invited applications for its pool of arbitrators for bilateral disputes under EU trade agreements, who were selected by an independent panel. The European Commission will select an arbitrator from the pre-selected list where required for a dispute. The EU also published a list of experts on trade and sustainable development since modern EU trade agreements contain chapters on trade and sustainable development that set out mutual commitments. The pool of arbitrators and experts includes lawyers and academics from around the globe and across the EU.
“I am pleased and grateful to have been selected for the EU list of arbitrators,” said Dr. Elke Umbeck.
Dr. Elke Umbeck is a Partner at Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek and has headed its Litigation and Arbitration Practice Group since 2008. She regularly acts as arbitrator in national and international arbitration proceedings and advises German and foreign clients in complex disputes.
