HQIB, advised by HEUKING, acquires Virion\Serion
A team from law firm HEUKING led by Dr. Pär Johansson advised Harald Quandt Industriebeteiligungen GmbH (HQIB) on its acquisition of Institut Virion Serion GmbH and that company’s Chinese joint venture (Virion\Serion).
Virion\Serion has been operating in the development, production, and distribution of in vitro diagnostics (IVD) for the diagnosis of viral, bacterial, fungal, and parasitic diseases for over 45 years. As a global supplier, the company offers raw materials and diagnostic products, which are used by over 400 customers, mainly laboratories and research institutes, in more than 100 countries.
HQIB acquired Virion\Serion with the objective of continuing the medium-sized company’s development in the long term, focusing particularly on further expanding its raw materials business and continued internationalization. Aided by HQIB’s financial resources and expertise, strategic acquisitions of complementary technologies and product groups will additionally accelerate growth. The management team led by CEO Dr. Judith Stürmer will remain with Virion\Serion after the transaction.
As an investment holding company, HQIB invests in SMEs in German-speaking countries that are operating in established, future-oriented, and technically sophisticated sectors with attractive growth potential. It focuses on the security, digitalization, and healthcare sectors. HQIB holds investments in 23 companies. As an industrial holding company, it pursues a long-term and sustainable investment approach and is not subject to maturity restrictions or limited holding periods. HEUKING previously advised HQIB on the acquisition of mediCAD SRB Software GmbH in 2023.
