Redesign of the Kreishaus district center area in Oberbergischer Kreis district - award winners of the architectural competition determined
On January 22, 2020 Oberbergischer Kreis presented the three winning designs of the realization competition “Increasing density of the district center area in Gummersbach.” Participants designed how the district administration, which is currently spread across 20 buildings, can be combined on one space while at the same time increasing the number of workplaces. The challenging design had to take into account the steep topography and include the existing district high-rise.
First place went to architectural office Hascher Jehle Design from Berlin. Second place went to Cologne-based Lorber Paul Architekten, while sinning architekten from Darmstadt came in third. The jury selected the winners from 15 anonymous designs.
“The planning contract will be awarded to one of the three award winners in a separate procedure,” said Ute Jasper, Lawyer and Team Leader at Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek. “In the next step, the district council will decide on the start of this award procedure. The goal is to award the planning services by the summer of 2020,” added Kirstin van de Sande, Lawyer and responsible for public procurement law in the procedure. After an approximately two-year planning phase, construction work can then be started. The new buildings are expected to be ready for occupation in 2025.
