State of Baden-Württemberg extends transport contracts with DB Regio AG and SWEG – team led by Ute Jasper, Christopher Marx, and Laurence Westen advise the state
The contract extensions improve rail transport on the Südbahn, Hochrheinbahn and Bodenseegürtelbahn, Zollernalbbahn, and Ortenau-S-Bahn networks. The following contracts with DB Regio will be extended until December 2027:
- Network 2 “Stuttgart - Ulm - Lake Constance”
- Network 16a “Aulendorfer Kreuz”
- Network 16b “Bodenseegürtelbahn”
Electric trains will therefore be used on the Südbahn, double-decker trains on the Hochrheinbahn and Bodenseegürtelbahn.
The contracts with SWEG are to be extended until December 2025. The existing vehicle fleets will soon be replaced by new vehicles. New trains will be operating on the Zollernalbbahn and the Ortenau rapid transit railway networks. On the Ortenau transit railway network, the vehicles will be replaced in December 2023, when emission-free BEMU vehicles will be launched.
