Stadium Project in Essen on Successful Track with Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek
Finally, construction for the new stadium in Essen is about to begin. Construction company Köster, a proven contractor for sports facility construction, was awarded the contract. Köster can now begin with the structural work with a contract value of approximately EUR 14 million.
In a Europe-wide procurement procedure, Köster prevailed over several other bidders. Plans call for a stadium with a capacity of about 20,000 seats for a total of around EUR 30 million. Soccer games will continue throughout the construction phase since the new stadium will be built offset to the old one. In the 2012/13 season, the loyal Rot-Weiß Essen fans are then scheduled to move into the new stadium. Until then, however, a lot needs to be done. As a next step, building contractors GVE, a municipal subsidiary, will award the steel construction works. In doing so, it is again counting on support by Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek.
Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek's partner Dr. Ute Jasper and lawyer Jens Biemann provided counsel in the award procedures on all legal issues with process design and implementation.
The Düsseldorf-based team around Dr. Ute Jasper had already previously helped some outstanding stadium projects to succeed, such as the new Tivoli in Aachen or the modern grandstand in Kassel.
