VRR awards ticket sales to Transdev with Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek
On March 13, 2017, transport association Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr awarded the contract for sales services to Transdev Vertrieb GmbH. From December 2019, Transdev will sell regional rail tickets via vending machines and sales outlets, replacing DB Vertrieb GmbH as VRR's long-standing contract partner.
By awarding the sales services to Transdev, VRR will significantly increase the quality of ticket sales while reducing cost at the same time. The new ticket machines are better equipped allowing passengers to purchase a ticket in only three clicks. In addition, Transdev will use video automats that connect customers directly to a service agent. At larger stations, Transdev will sell the tickets at sales outlets. "Effective competition once again led to excellent economic results," said Ute Jasper.
Dr. Ute Jasper and Dr. Laurence Westen, lawyers in Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek's "Public Sector & Public Procurement" practice group, designed the award procedure and drafted the award documents. Their colleagues Dr. Lutz Keppeler, expert for IT law from the law firm's Cologne office, and Dr. Stefan Proske, insolvency lawyer based in Berlin, supported them in this project.
In another separate award procedure, VRR, assisted by Jasper and her team, is currently looking for a service provider to supply and operate a check-in/be-out system for automated passenger registration. After completion of this procedure, VRR will have the most modern distribution infrastructure in Germany.
