Whitepaper published: Legal risks when using international cloud providers

Jointly with Cologne-based IaaS and PaaS provider gridscale, Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek has published a whitepaper on the legally compliant use of international cloud providers. The compendium offers practical advice aimed at business and IT decision-makers in the SME sector. The guide was drafted by Dominik Eickemeier and Dr. Lutz M. Keppeler from Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek’s Cologne office.

Numerous companies in Germany are considering using the services of international cloud providers. In addition to the major U.S. players, Asian providers sre expected to establish themselves as alternatives in this environment. A “clash of cultures” will therefore have to be managed in this field from a legal perspective.

When selecting a suitable cloud provider, legal pitfalls must be taken into account that far exceed the keywords of “international data transfer” and “EU-US Privacy Shield.” The compendium offers a checklist-like overview of the major topics to assist managers and IT experts in German companies in their decisions which cloud provider is right for them.

gridscale stands for easy-to-use and flexible cloud technologies. As a cloud partner with data centers in Germany, gridscale realizes with and for its customers fail-safe, data protection compliant and autoscalable IT infrastructures. gridscale with its about 100 employees is led by Henrik Hasenkamp and Felix Kronlage-Dammers. Gridscale’s public cloud is certified with the “Trusted Cloud” label by the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy.
