Duisport is setting up a logistics joint venture in Turkey assisted by Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek

The team led by Düsseldorf-based partners Dr. Wolfgang Kühn and Dr. Martin Imhof advised Duisburger Hafen AG on establishing a logistics joint venture with Turkish ARKAS group. duisport group is the operating company of Duisburg Port, the world's largest inland container hub and the largest trimodal hinterland hub in Europe with combined transport to more than 80 direct destinations in Europe and Asia. Turkish ARKAS Group managed by ARKAS Holding S.A. is operating in shipping (shipping company and agency), port and terminal operations, and logistics services. It has some 6,500 employees in Turkey and 24 other countries.

The joint venture aims at the joint development of multimodal logistics space and the development of intermodal services in Turkey. It will initially focus on developing and operating a multi-modal logistics area near Istanbul with more than 200,000 square meters, whose core will be a bimodal container terminal. The investment will be in the high double-digit million-euro range. The bimodal logistics terminal (road/rail) on Istanbul’s Asian side will act as a hub and, will closely interlink the two logistics hubs Istanbul and North-Rhine Westphalia once the Marmaray tunnel has been opened for freight transport.

The team led by partners Kühn and Imhof is advising duisport on a regular basis, most recently on the acquisition of a stake in Dutch DistriRail BV, as well as in antitrust matters.
