WuXi Biologics acquires from Bayer a drug product plant with Heuking
A team led by Dirk W. Kolvenbach advised the globally active company WuXi Biologics on the acquisition of a sterile filling and freeze-drying plant from Bayer AG. The plant is designed for the filling and freeze-drying of the blood-coagulation medication Kovaltry®. The plant will be operated on the premises of the Chempark in Leverkusen. For this purpose, a long-term sublease agreement for the use of the building was concluded.
The plant, which will be operated by WuXi Biologics in the future, will serve as a back-up site for the final production of Kovaltry®. A corresponding production agreement is still to be negotiated and concluded.
The transaction is expected to be completed in the coming months, provided that the usual closing conditions are met. Financial details were not disclosed.
“We are excited to sign this acquisition agreement with Bayer, allowing us to have quick access to high quality drug product manufacturing capacities and capabilities,” said Dr. Chris Chen, CEO of WuXi Biologics. “Our business in EU, US and China market has experienced robust growth in the past few years. This additional drug product plant further confirms our commitment to ‘Global Dual Sourcing within WuXi Biologics’ strategy. WuXi Biologics will continue to expand our worldwide capacity, providing global partners with a robust and premier-quality supply chain network to benefit patients worldwide.”
WuXi Biologics is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and is a leading global open access technology platform for biologics. The company offers end-to-end solutions to empower organizations to discover, develop and manufacture biologics from concept to commercial manufacturing.
